Overview and Experience
Philippa Lowthorpe is an award winning director who made history when she became the first ever female winner of Best Director Fiction at 2013 Bafta Television awards.
Her most recent film ‘Misbehaviour’ stars Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Greg Kinnear and Jessie Buckley. Set in 1970, the film is based on the true story of a group of young feminists who hatch a plan to disrupt the Miss World beauty competition – the same year Jennifer Hosten became the first black woman to win the crown.
In 2018, Lowthorpe directed the critically acclaimed mini-series Three Girls for BBC which went onto win 5 BAFTA awards including Best Mini Series and a second Best Director Bafta for Lowthorpe.
Most recently, Lowthorpe directed ‘Winter’ – the second trilogy in experimental mini-series The Third Day for Plan B Entertainment and HBO, starring Naomie Harris and Jude Law.
Lowthorpe’s other credits include lead director of the first series of Call the Midwife, the Crown, Jamaica Inn, Cider With Rosie , Swallows and Amazons.
