Overview and Experience

Steve Allen has recently taken up a new role as the Popular Factual, Formats, and Digital Commissioning Executive at BBC Scotland where his slate includes, Scotland’s Home Of The Year, Getting Hitched Asian Style, and Paramedics on Scene.

He has over twenty years’ experience in the industry, creating content for all the main UK broadcasters across a broad spectrum of genres, including Popular Factual, Current Affairs, and Specialist Factual.
His credits include: Location Location Location, Antiques Road Trip, Drugs Inc, Air Ambulance ER, and Inside The World’s Toughest Prisons.

Steve Allen has been working as an Assistant Commissioner in BBC Scotland for the past two years. He came in to support the outgoing Daytime and Factual Entertainment Commissioner on formats and popular factual content for audiences in Scotland, and has subsequently worked with the Scotland Factual Commissioner to exec produce a raft of ideas across BBC Scotland and BBC One Scotland.

Steve is a very personable and collegiate worker who has built up good relationships with indies in Scotland and also with colleagues across the BBC.
He has shown a good instinct for factual content, particularly documentaries, and is bringing in new ideas to the point of commission.

Steve’s career in television production has spanned over twenty years. He has worked across multiple genres including specialist factual, popular factual, and current affairs where amongst other roles he worked as an undercover reporter. He has many years’ experience self-shooting, producing and directing programmes for most the UK’s main broadcasters and US broadcasters such as National Geographic.
This extensive track record has resulted in well-rounded experience across the TV industry and placed Steve in an excellent position to take the next steps forward into leadership.
Steve is now at a point in his career where he would benefit from further development in leadership, confident communication and strategic thinking to help him progress to the next level within commissioning or to help him identify where his passions lie within broadcasting.
