Tara Jang

Series Producer, Showrunner and Director (current)

I’m a highly experienced and versatile series producer/ showrunner and director on factual, docs and fact ent programming for UK and US broadcasters. I specialise in talent led projects having worked with everyone from actors Kirstie Alley and Keith Allen, to Mary Portas , Stacey Dooley, Davina McCall and The Hairy Bikers.

An ex music photographer, I started my television career in music and arts, then moved across to comedy before realising my real passion was for storytelling and documentaries. I’ve worked on everything from acclaimed travel food documentaries, Remarkable Places To Eat and A Cook Abroad -India, to single docs looking at the gender pay gap, hard hitting docs with Stacey Dooley about gang violence and open adoption to award winning formats, Wife Swap and World’s Strictest Parents. I’m creative and love a challenge and have launched many new series including Bake Off :Crème De Crème, and Unplugged Nation about off grid living in the American wilds.

Being a Breakthrough Leader...
It has plugged me into a network of incredibly talented, inspiring and supportive fellow leaders. And having a coach and mentor was a luxury that has been invaluable in helping me rethink the way I approach my work and my worth.

Tara Jang is an extremely talented and creative series producer, edit producer and director, and potential future leader. She has built up many years of credits in factual, factual entertainment and documentary for high quality peak time series across PSB and global channels, working with top talent. She has very many strings to her bow – is an excellent producer and director – balancing imaginative ideas for visually compelling sequences with strong editorial judgement and a real sense of how to deliver deep and engaging content. She is thorough, prepared, hard working and highly organised and professional, always keen to go the extra mile for a quality production, working with energy and enthusiasm however tough the schedule or budget. She has a great way with words, and writes scripts with flair and detail. She has run large international teams, working independently and with a high degree of professionalism solving problems placed in her way. We have worked with Tara on location and in the edit and would always choose to work with her again. In addition to her considerable technical and editorial skills, she is a kind, and thoughtful person with real emotional intelligence, and that empathy is a really important characteristic for a team leader.
Tara would be a perfect candidate for the Breakthrough Leaders’s scheme – she has a huge amount of talent as a TV creative, but the support and encouragement from a mentor and a coach as you are offering could really help her personal confidence in aiming really high and then getting there. She has everything going for her – and that extra boost of confidence and opportunity could be just the thing she needs to reach the absolute tops of the industry, where she could really add so much. I sincerely hope you will consider her as she would be a credit to the scheme.
